Infographics are the perfect combination of information or rather graphics. For example, you read a text and and have difficulties to understand. You try to imagine the real problem and draw an illustration in your mind. After severeal seconds you loose the direction and break down. This is a typical situation when reading complex texts without infographics.
On the downside, you read a short text with many illustrations. Ok, you realize the theme, problem, topics etc. of this text much faster because the graphics or rather diagrams support you during the process of understanding. But, however, you also lose the focus – cause of too many various illustrations.
What a pity! Time to improve something. What’s the magic word? I am gonna tell you: Infographics. Pooow!!
Readable, relevant information shown or rather illustrated in a graphic. Information that you understand very fast. Pictures that you collect and remember much much faster than ever expected – no simple text is nearby able to perform in the same manner.
But, when should we use infographics in the fast business world? The more the better. Since 2013 it can be observed that the consequent use of infographics online and offline is rising. For example, simple business websites, eshops, newspapers, magazines but also reports, statistics or rather analyses state infographics.
Traditional pics or photos seem to be too boring and hackneyed. As qouted: we think too long, we read to much, we occupy ourselves with too many details about things or rather themes, we collect boring information, we gather irrelevant data et cetera.
I think that we need more facts about topics, themes spoken out metaphorically. Things that you keep at once. Matters that you understand fast and secure. To be more precise, we only have five to eight seconds to understand an advertising message – enough time for an infographics but not for a complex text!
An infographic is always target-oriented. There is a start and a goal. You pick up only relevant information. This information is always unobtrusive. Readers aren´t parti pris. They pick up only valuable particulars as digestable chunks. Which is to say, each (graphical) unit is self-explanatory. We read only sparse text, regard sparse graphics like diagrams, charts or pies. We understand at once. Information is always presented personal, clear, relevant and funny. No more boring statements about all and sundry. Guaranteed!
Infographics try to inform, to entertain and to persuade.
After getting in touch with an infographic you really understand the problem.
Ok, infographics are coming more and more. We can observe infographics designed by other people – either professionals or amateurs. But, so to speak, it is time to draft and use our own infographics. Copies are for the birds.
Due to the 3-P-Principle „Plan – Produce – Publish“, we create and release our own infographics.
First and foremost, try to draw a wireframe or a mood board or rather a simple line drawing as graphic. Determine the target direction and try to qoute the suitable text as headline or introduction etc.
Secondly, try to specific an appropriate graphic program like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or an absolutely (beginner) software like Microsoft PowerPoint. Yes, you can also use compensatory tools.
Thirdly, collect relevant statistical data about the theme or rather topics. You are allowed to surf the web and look for good data sources or you can also take the necessary information out from a statistical book, newspaper or magazine.
Forthly, draw your personal infographic deviated from your previous draft by observing: the headline, subinformation, graphics, introduction, body, conclusion, start, aim etc.
Fithly, after creating the infographic save this file as .jpeg, .png or rather .gif-file. A good file memory capacity may be one megabyte. Ok, now you can publish your infographic for itself, or as partial graphic etc. For instance, upload your infographic by using a content management software like WordPress or snippet your infographic as significant part of your business website etc.
Infographics automatically guarantee more traffic. Take, for example, the case of launching a new product together with your infographics. You will see, (much) more readers will visit your site. In other words, higher gross range success – more conversion.
The draft of your infographic could need three days up to two weeks. This work can be executed internally or externally.
The complete realization process could use four weeks and cost several hundred euros. Professionals are allowed to claim several thousand euros.
Accepted, what is with the mass of users. Not each person is in the situation to draft a suitable infograhic by using a suitable graphic software like a graphic designer. Ok, such people, nevertheless, have the chance to work with predetermined infographic templates. Additionally, tools like: Canva, Vizualize or Piktochart support you with enough templates. The variety of backgrounds, motives, colors, formats, fonts, pics etc. is absolutely incredible. A suitable template for the problem in question is really guaranteed. In brief, it is something for everyone.
Watch out, not each font, for example, fits with another font automatically. Please observe, font type „Geneva“ is really compatible with font type „Dallas“ or font type „Garamond“ is compatible with font type „Times New Roman“. But, however, font type „African“ isn´t comaptible with font type „Myriad“ etc.
I hope that you have got some valuable information about infographics. I think you are now in the position to create an infographic as sample. Try it!!
